REVIEWS,INFO FOR PART 1 KINETIC PUNCHING FOR MMA DVD

I’m Getting some good feedback from the lads at hustle gym in wrexham, Nathan Edwards and his brother Macaulay have been the two fighters that have really taken it in so far, what I like about Nathan is he’ll go into detail About how he’s used the kinetic striking in training through the week and when I show him something, he’ll say “I could use that in the clinch, here” and run through certain positions, this helps me out loads when it comes down to refining what I’m teaching specifically for MMA. I’m used to teaching some basic ground positions for self defence, but when you’re in the full mount of a trained fighter, it’s like you’ve grown an extra limb, like a good fitting belt! Larry Hartsell used to say "theres no gaps in grappling" I had visions of bucking furiously to exhaustion trying to get him off me...I’d have no chance

I gave him a copy of my DVD “ADVANCED KINETIC CHAIN PUNCHING FOR PROFESSIONAL MMA PART 1 THE KINETIC PUNCH” to see what he thought.

He said “I found it interesting about lining up the arm with the elbow and the power ark, because it’s different from boxing and it’s driving the punch in, good for close distance and goes well with boxing”
He also mentioned how it’s good for when you’re tired, as it uses less energy.

the biggest difference with a kinetic punch and the standard MMA punch is the part of the knuckles you land with, you can’t throw or learn the punch in boxing gloves, it designed specifically for the MMA glove, this allows you to line up the knuckles and the elbow and finish the strike with the shoulder, rather than finishing the strike with the triceps and the outside three knuckles like you would in bigger gloves.
The other part that completes the kinetic punch is the type of snap or shock that you can train on the end of any punch for a more concussive effect, Boxing, Thai or the kinetic punch there’s a choice of 4 types, the light snap, deep snap, the ripper, and the kinetic chop which is a mix of the first three and the most powerful, these can be trained on the end of your punches, hammer fists, elbows, knees etc improving your precision and impact.

What Nathan really sends home is the importance of training across the board which may seem obvious for MMA, with Boxing and Muay Thai being the main stay for striking at the Hustle Gym like any MMA gym, I’m glad that he’s realising the benefit of adding the Kinetic striking to his training. And that it can only improve his individual MMA. His 3rd fights in less than a few weeks come on TEAM HUSTLE!

Just want to add another review of the DVD short but sweet from Macaulay Edwards another amateur MMA fighter and Nathans Brother "GOOD, INTERESTING,I LIKED IT"

From Bradley Scott UFC Fighter after watching kinetic punching dvd  "100% agree with your punching power my boxing coach (mark kent) teaches identical to you!! It's nice to see someone who actually knows what there on about instead of some if the utter shit I get sent! My boxing coach shows me another punch where as you throw (straight right) turn knuckles down at a very slight angle and use the gravity. It's now my favourite punch it does horrific damage. Where are you based? "

knuckle conditioning treatment

After years of playing around with knuckle and hand conditioning and just general training, the best and only thing I found for wrist strains, sore knuckles or aching hands besides ice was this stuff, three times a day to any sore spots.

Teaching at the Hustle gym,Wrexham

its only been a few weeks but thing are going really well at the moment after my first class. Im also teaching some privates to a few fighters as well. Nathan Edwards 1-1 hes got some really good skills and picks up what im teaching really quickly, hes already switched to using the kinetic punch for his closer/ground strikes,he was telling me how he believes that if he knew it in his last fight, he believes he would have finished the fight quicker.
Hes got a fight coming up early march and even though ive only just started teaching him,I cant wait to see to results in the cage.Ive also just started teaching Chay long another fighter whos trained and kickboxing.JKD and has just moved into MMA hes fouight before in a kickboxing match and hes got his fisrt MMA fight coming up in April, you can tell Chay has put some time in and thought a lot about his techniques, and has a very similar mindset to Nathan and is also picking it up quickly. He mention how he was going home to practice, thats the sort of mindset you want.today as well as kinetic punches,we worked elbows and hammerfists.

THE FIRST DVD SET I BROUGHT OUT ON STRIKING IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR £24.99

Heres two reviews from the "INSTINCTIVE COMBATIVES,FROM THE SHOULDER TO THE KNUCKLE 3 dvd set

"Hi Karl,

Really enjoyed your Dvd's. Would have to say, based on practicality, concise explanations and what I would consider to be effective that your Dvds top any that I have previously bought.
Would love the opportunity to over and train with you.

Please tell me that you have other training materials available that I can buy to learn more.  I am already getting my bits and pieces together to start training my shockwave training.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
P****"

"Hi Karl,

Watched the DVD's over the weekend. Here is the feedback mate.

Kinetic Chain.
Very interesting - never realised that boxing gloves force you to punch incorrectly.
I'm still playing around with working out exactly where I contact on impact. Seams to be around the middle knuckle but I'm not sure its exactly the edge of the middle knuckle that you suggest. My striking point on the fist has mostly come out of hitting hard things and finding out how to hit so that my wrist doesn't buckle. It's a bit hard to tell exactly the point of impact on my maize ball as it deforms a bit on impact, but my technique is at least very close to what you suggest.  I'll work on this over the next few weeks.

It's also good to see that my wrist position is correct, I have found that it feels more comfortable if I punch with a slightly bent wrist (just a little bit bent). However I thought the correct position was to have straight wrist so I was a little unsure if I was getting into a bad habit. So its good to know that my wrist position is correct after all.

Shockwaves
The 1st and 2nd shockwaves are something which I've been doing to some extent already.
When I was young a mate of mine who used to be a professional boxer taught me some boxing and he was very big on me retracting my punches as quickly as possible.  This wasn't to increase the shockwave, but he was very keen on me getting back to the guard position as quickly as possible.  So even though it wasn't his intent he was teaching me to create a shockwave.
More recently I went on the 4 day "Foundation Course" with Mick Coup (which was by far the best and most challenging course I've ever been on), on the course he made us aware of retraction on a punch (the difference between a punch and push) Here is a link to a clip from the course regarding that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Syhm3Sq2Sk

However although I have been trying to retract the punch as fast as possible (once I have put my energy into the bag - hard to explain, kind of a feeling thing) I lacked the ideas that you have had on how to explicitly train it.
I like the way you train this without having to do a full power shot each time and I like the different methods you have of training the shockwave. Very useful to me.  I will definitely be incorporating your methods into my training.

The ripping shockwave is completely new to me. It definitely feels more powerful when I am training it on my bag or maize ball. I like this. Very nice on hooks and overhand right. Feels very natural, especially on the overhand right.

Your DVD's are very educational and I appreciate you sending it out to me so quickly.
I've only ever seen one other DVD on how to punch better (well, only one that wasn't crap) and that was called "steve Morris One on One Training Tips for Standup" you may well have it as I know you are a fan of his, infact it was looking on your website that introduced me to him.
If you haven't got it you will find it fascinating  it  kind of explains lots of his thoughts (which are spread out over his other DVD's ) and puts them on one DVD. For someone like yourself who is interested in differant ways to improve his punching technique I think you will like it. This DVD explains his thoughts well and has a demonstration at the end with a student (like your DVD) so you can see it in application. Like yourself he has got some interesting and novel training ideas.  Link here
http://www.morrisnoholdsbarred.co.uk/shop_item_oneonone_technical.html

The only other person who has taught me to punch better was Mick Coup, his method is nothing new to you as you have trained with him, but thought I'd include the links out of interest in case you hadent seen them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir2AFdgItfw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoenPa8St

So thumbs up for the DVD - the only negative'ish comment I would make is that I would say it is more for the advanced player.  I've been showing my boss a bit of boxing (he has bought a punch bag and wants to learn a bit of boxing on the bag as a way to keep fit (good thing as I only know a bit of boxing)). And your DVD would be too advanced for someone like him as he is still learning the basics of how to punch with his bodyweight.  But for anyone who can already throw a half decent punch they should enjoy and benefit from your DVD.

I'm still looking forward to training with you.  hopefully not to many months away and I can arrange a date to learn from you.

Best wishes,*********** "

First MMA kinetic punching Class went Great

The first class at the hustle gym was a real success,
I felt that I managed to get across the main points for the first lesson really well. I’ve already got three of the fighters taking privates as well. It’s amazing how much quicker athletes pick up your techniques and run with them, as opposed to teaching non athletes self defence .What really interests me is the fights, to me the fight is the test of the fighters own personal training, but also the person who’s teaching them. Because if the student isn’t using the techniques you’re teaching in the fight, you’re doing something wrong.

I’m looking forward to the look on the opponents face when one of my students lands the first kinetic punch, the difference in concussive force when you compare a standard MMA punch is significant and these guys simply aren’t going to be used to feeling that much force, imagine if you’re a counter fighter and your used to taking shots to give shots. I’m expecting this to be similar to what you see with say  Edson Barboza and his kicks. Some people have just never felt that much raw concussive power from his kicks and it has been totally overwhelming for some of his opponents. The kinetic punch can replace your entire set of standard MMA punches with a stronger kinetic version designed specifically for MMA gloves, like the jab cross, hook etc. this comes down to the thumb position in bigger gloves. Boxing or Thai gloves teach you one way to throw a punch, but don’t allow you to land in a fully kinetic position like MMA gloves do. But Boxing and Muay Thai is just as important to get in the right position to deliver these strikes. along with the stronger positioning taught for the kinetic punch,  the concussive training and techniques use to increase your punching effectiveness, Can also be used to increase the effectiveness of all your strikes, from hammer fist to elbows, knees and kicks.

the Hustle gym is a great set up and well worth a visit heres a link http://www.hustlegym.co.uk/
