Creating a shockwave? Why not..

Transferring energy? sending out energy..Creating a shock wave? why not? its exactly what i try teach my students, drawing your energy from the earth through your feet, into your body and delivering that,to whatever strike you need to deliver, the smoother and more flowing your body does this, will maximizes your own  ability to build speed and power,Getting a student to understand their own personal kinetic chain, I would see this as the first part of delivering any effective strike, along with helping the individual build there own athleticism to a level that they can achieve the purpose they need, either a sporting context Boxing,MMA etc or through the self defence that it teach

the second part of how to strike is the type of delivery you put on the end of the strike to finish the strike for the desired effect,We train three different ways of delivering that energy, and they effect the person in three different ways.
The first shock wave one is like an bit like a one used in a crisp snapping jab, this can really help build speed and a faster delivery just understanding and can also make a big step in your power.
The second one is a deeper way of delivering the first shock wave, and helps build and understanding of how curves increase power/effect, learning this will again increase the effectiveness and power and precision of whichever strike you chose to put it on the end of.
the third type of impact has like a hooking or ripping through  type of shock-wave has the most effect and is the the most powerful type I teach and covers the most powerful angles and again gives you another step up in power and effectiveness.
The better you can do the first shock wave, the better the second and so on,these shock waves can be added to any strike to increase their effectiveness.this is how Keith at 69 is still improving and hitting harder, here's a clip explaining a bit more detail,on the back of the last clip with Keith

Well....I suppose in some ways the last clip could be taken from two points of view

You could look at it, like I was the one training to absorb the strike in some Chi Gong body conditioning way or like the Systema clips I’ve seen where they are absorbing punches, sort of training to absorb the strike with my spleen or stomach muscles not I’m not doing that at all, it’s just hurts less when I breath out and helps absorb the strike on the surface of my body, something which if i get the timing wrong passes the surface muscles and is felt internally and causes a sort of spasm and is very painful .if you look closely when Keith is apologizing it’s when his strike has gone deeper than intended and how My body reacts more to the strike, hence the internal striking

Rather than me, training to absorb strikes with my body, He’s learning and refining a few different ways of finishing a hand strike and testing lightly on me to see and feel the effect they have on me and what it feels like when it has the desired effect, then like with the stabbing hook he’s recreating the same type of impact/effect on the water bag, with the human body being "around 60% water and the brain 79%water " and soft tissue etc, I find water bags are perfect for this. Then I’m holding the focus pad on my hand pad to feel if he’s doing a harder version of what he trained on me and on the water bag.
I find the stabbing impact on the hooking strike Keith is practicing is very similar to this clip of Bas Rutten and his Liver/spleen strike. And because of the mma Gloves it allows him to tuck the thumb in and hit with the inside of his middle knuckle, which gives more driving stabbing power

There’s three types that I teach,a light snap a deeper snap and a hooking or ripping snap these are the same techniques taught to me by Dennis Jones in the earlier clips.and ive found it can trained on the end of any punch or kick to improve explosiveness precision and ultimately has more chance of achieving the desired effect, again this is just my take I'm sure others may see it differently.
hope this helps you guys

An inspiration to us all

At 69 Keith is a real inspiration to me every time we train, here were working some internal punching to improve the explosiveness of his palm heel, hes using his kinetic chain to build power, the internal part refines the finish of the strike and makes it more precise and more explosive, its for self defence so his hands are at different positions and not in a guard etc like for sport. there's a little comparison on speed v power at the end

How to punch 30% harder than a boxer

Here's a clip of Bas Rutten an excellent striker in his own right, hes one of the best ive seen for spot on bio mechanics, hes testing the difference in power between the boxing gloves mma gloves and bare knuckle
Through my research I've realised that the fixed thumb in boxing gloves, seriously restricts your power because the thumb position stops you hitting with the two knuckles,in fact id go so far as to say its impossible to land with two knuckles in modern boxing gloves,if you take your glove off and put your thumb in the same position and try landing two knuckles, you'll notice the end of the thumb hits first, this encourages you to strike with the outside of the knuckle,so if you carry this style learnt in fixed thumb gloves to MMA gloves, you end up hitting with the middle knuckle and the outside of the fist, look closely at the slow motion hes hitting with the middle and outside knuckles. with the thumb properly tucked in MMA gloves this allows you to hit stabbing in with the inside of the middle knuckle(two knuckles) at 45% even with hooks, understanding this will instantly give you at least a 20% increase in power, you also don't gain any power at all from rotating the fist last minute in MMA gloves,in fact this way of striking also stops you from hitting with the inside of the knuckle and greatly increases the chances of a "boxers fracture" as your thowing your fist out pinky finger first, the wrist position stays the same place, because there's only one position that the wrist is at its strongest, its the elbow position that changes, add this to the internal training and id say your looking at about a 30% increase in power, speed and precision when punching in MMA gloves with less chance of a fracture on top of that, however hard or fast you already hit in fixed thumb boxing gloves.you will see a significant difference in every punch you throw and that's Guaranteed if you train with me

internal striking for boxing and MMA

Internal techniques are techniques you have to feel to understand, you might look like you punch the same, but its got a lot more power/effect from training the snap or bounce in the tendons and connective tissue this way of training can give a significant power, precision, and explosiveness and will improve any strike, much more than any amount of strength training

I teach 3 different types of snap or impact for any striking art boxing, mma and self defence depending on the type of strike,a light snap,a deep snap, and a hooking or ripping snap heres Dennis jones disscussing them

punching with light weights is one way to train them, but its not about lifting the weight its about training the bounce on the end, trained properly it feels almost like your hitting a bag,and once you understand it you can practice it without the weight
heres an older clip of me which is a follow on from the above clip talking about it and punching with weights

and heres the follow on part 2

What’s the best art for the physical side of self defense/combatives

So let’s think about this you need good hands that’s boxing or Muay Thai, ju jitsu for the ground game, wrestling/judo for control, oh yes let’s not forget all the wrist locks the list could be endless and it can take a life time to perfect a single art, I need to be good at all these arts right to be able to physically defend myself,
This is basically what I was seeing when I first started martial arts for self defense, that’s what martial arts are for right?
It was only when I started adding a bit of scepticism myself that I noticed a gap between real reality and what I saw being taught,
For a start totally untrained people win or survive confrontations every day without any training whatsoever, in my eyes the one determining factor for that is the correct mindset and I think that without the correct mindset any physical ability you have is useless
You have to learn from real experiences whether it’s your own or someone else’s, If you have little experience take a look at the thousands of real fighting clips out there and ask yourself if you could pull of what your being taught or just see what works for them the one real eye opener is simply to test what you’re doing at full force full speed, any questions of what you think you can pull of will be answered very quickly, disregard any notion that what your being taught is too dangerous to test at full force, in fact I disregarded anything I couldn’t test because it was “to lethal”
I wanted to figure out the absolute basics of what worked in real life and start build up what I do from there these are the basics of what in my eyes is actually really needed for effective self defence from a physical point of view
1, correct mindset, aggressive determined and violent but controlled
 2 hit the head
3, hands are king
4 hit first or by surprise
5, positioning, whether you’re on the ground or stood up

These are the basics I’m still working on in detail, they don’t make up a system and there’s certainly no fillers. and in my honest option   that’s what makes up the absolute basics of what you need, and whatever martial art or combative style you train in for street defence, It should never become the real focus of your training, until you've got them 5 basics down and your confident with your stopping power, positioning and response under threat or pressure of an individual intent on damaging you
I stopped looking for the “style” and decided to look for the techniques that made up what I wanted there’s was one thing I needed regardless of how many variations I was going to learn and that was a weapon that I could carry with me at all times regardless of law or country one thing that I could relied on, what’s the quickest most effective way I can stop someone? Hit them hard with your hands
When I started looking for an art that was pure without dilution or set parameters and stuck to these basics I came up short,What I needed was some basic strikes just a few that I had to learn and to try and get them to the point where they react instinctively with natural body movement any big thoughts under adrenal pressure and people can freeze, I’ve seen this a lot in training with the suit and even just training heads or dummies, trying to respond when you’re in fight or flight mode to an aggressive individual isn’t easy if you’ve never done it or experience any real aggressive behaviour. I’ve seen people struggle to even talk at first let alone do anything else

I simply couldn't find any and started working on the basics myself, while I learnt from many teachers, there was only one who stood out and he was also the one with the most "street fighting" experienced, He had all my bio-mechanic anwsers without restriction and left me with everything i need to take what i do to the next point. I also realized that it was a very personal thing and to get to any real level of ability was going to take a hell of a lot of more practice.I also think one of the biggest mistakes any guy looking for physical self defence techniques can make is learning to fight with set parameters  then expecting the  person attacking you to fit into your class parameters because all that changes when there isn’t any, this for me brings home the importance of some sort of padded assailant drill,to allow the sort of full on aggression training for adrenalin and to test if what your learning/teaching is accually coming out under pressure.
in a physical self defense situation your the Innocent one and its very important not to forget your goal is to escape safely,I dont see it mentally as getting into a fight, that implies give and take a two sided situation.train to attack and escape as quickly as possible, learn skills without restriction like your attacker.
and remember you also have to deal with the law and your own morality way before any response is needed.and then again afterwards

Peace

More power in mma punches

I just thought i write a little bit more about the mma punching and power striking that im now teaching.
Through my research into the bare knuckle striking and bio mechanics,i realized the the boxing glove only allows you to strike with one angle of the knuckle, the outside which delivers significantly less power than the inside knuckle,im guessing most people just don't realize this because they train in boxing/muay thai gloves all the time, ive found most of these just don't allow you to strike with the inside knuckle so people just arnt learning it,the thing is with these minor changes to your technique in mma gloves you can strike with the inside knuckle this allows you to deliver a significant increase in power,a stronger punch with more force and explosivness and because of the angles you use it significantly reduces the chances of a boxers fracture.

there's also the explosive striking that i teach, from the basic snap from boxing,to the bone breaking and organ damaging secret techniques of the Chinese and fa shing, ive uncovered the truth and is there was any secrets there isnt now, I could just show you how to make your favourite punch more explosive and damaging

So if your an MMA fighter who wants to hit harder than everyone else or you just want to know how to punch harder than a boxer with less chance of damaging your hand, then contact me here for details

nobody in mma is using this style yet,be the first club to take it on board and give your lads the advantage in hand strikes and explosive knockout power
