After years of playing around with knuckle and hand conditioning and just general training, the best and only thing I found for wrist strains, sore knuckles or aching hands besides ice was this stuff, three times a day to any sore spots.

Teaching at the Hustle gym,Wrexham
its only been a few weeks but thing are going really well at the moment after my first class. Im also teaching some privates to a few fighters as well. Nathan Edwards 1-1 hes got some really good skills and picks up what im teaching really quickly, hes already switched to using the kinetic punch for his closer/ground strikes,he was telling me how he believes that if he knew it in his last fight, he believes he would have finished the fight quicker.
Hes got a fight coming up early march and even though ive only just started teaching him,I cant wait to see to results in the cage.Ive also just started teaching Chay long another fighter whos trained and kickboxing.JKD and has just moved into MMA hes fouight before in a kickboxing match and hes got his fisrt MMA fight coming up in April, you can tell Chay has put some time in and thought a lot about his techniques, and has a very similar mindset to Nathan and is also picking it up quickly. He mention how he was going home to practice, thats the sort of mindset you want.today as well as kinetic punches,we worked elbows and hammerfists.

"Hi Karl,
Heres two reviews from the "INSTINCTIVE COMBATIVES,FROM THE SHOULDER TO THE KNUCKLE 3 dvd set
"Hi Karl,
Really enjoyed your Dvd's. Would have to say, based on practicality, concise explanations and what I would consider to be effective that your Dvds top any that I have previously bought.
Would love the opportunity to over and train with you.
Please tell me that you have other training materials available that I can buy to learn more. I am already getting my bits and pieces together to start training my shockwave training.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
P****"
"Hi Karl,
Watched the DVD's over the weekend. Here is the feedback mate.
Kinetic Chain.
Very interesting - never realised that boxing gloves force you to punch incorrectly.
I'm still playing around with working out exactly where I contact on impact. Seams to be around the middle knuckle but I'm not sure its exactly the edge of the middle knuckle that you suggest. My striking point on the fist has mostly come out of hitting hard things and finding out how to hit so that my wrist doesn't buckle. It's a bit hard to tell exactly the point of impact on my maize ball as it deforms a bit on impact, but my technique is at least very close to what you suggest. I'll work on this over the next few weeks.
It's also good to see that my wrist position is correct, I have found that it feels more comfortable if I punch with a slightly bent wrist (just a little bit bent). However I thought the correct position was to have straight wrist so I was a little unsure if I was getting into a bad habit. So its good to know that my wrist position is correct after all.
Shockwaves
The 1st and 2nd shockwaves are something which I've been doing to some extent already.
When I was young a mate of mine who used to be a professional boxer taught me some boxing and he was very big on me retracting my punches as quickly as possible. This wasn't to increase the shockwave, but he was very keen on me getting back to the guard position as quickly as possible. So even though it wasn't his intent he was teaching me to create a shockwave.
More recently I went on the 4 day "Foundation Course" with Mick Coup (which was by far the best and most challenging course I've ever been on), on the course he made us aware of retraction on a punch (the difference between a punch and push) Here is a link to a clip from the course regarding that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Syhm3Sq2Sk
However although I have been trying to retract the punch as fast as possible (once I have put my energy into the bag - hard to explain, kind of a feeling thing) I lacked the ideas that you have had on how to explicitly train it.
I like the way you train this without having to do a full power shot each time and I like the different methods you have of training the shockwave. Very useful to me. I will definitely be incorporating your methods into my training.
The ripping shockwave is completely new to me. It definitely feels more powerful when I am training it on my bag or maize ball. I like this. Very nice on hooks and overhand right. Feels very natural, especially on the overhand right.
Your DVD's are very educational and I appreciate you sending it out to me so quickly.
I've only ever seen one other DVD on how to punch better (well, only one that wasn't crap) and that was called "steve Morris One on One Training Tips for Standup" you may well have it as I know you are a fan of his, infact it was looking on your website that introduced me to him.
If you haven't got it you will find it fascinating it kind of explains lots of his thoughts (which are spread out over his other DVD's ) and puts them on one DVD. For someone like yourself who is interested in differant ways to improve his punching technique I think you will like it. This DVD explains his thoughts well and has a demonstration at the end with a student (like your DVD) so you can see it in application. Like yourself he has got some interesting and novel training ideas. Link herehttp://www.morrisnoholdsbarred.co.uk/shop_item_oneonone_technical.html
The only other person who has taught me to punch better was Mick Coup, his method is nothing new to you as you have trained with him, but thought I'd include the links out of interest in case you hadent seen them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir2AFdgItfw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoenPa8St
So thumbs up for the DVD - the only negative'ish comment I would make is that I would say it is more for the advanced player. I've been showing my boss a bit of boxing (he has bought a punch bag and wants to learn a bit of boxing on the bag as a way to keep fit (good thing as I only know a bit of boxing)). And your DVD would be too advanced for someone like him as he is still learning the basics of how to punch with his bodyweight. But for anyone who can already throw a half decent punch they should enjoy and benefit from your DVD.
I'm still looking forward to training with you. hopefully not to many months away and I can arrange a date to learn from you.

First MMA kinetic punching Class went Great
The first class at the hustle gym was a real success,
I felt
that I managed to get across the main points for the first lesson really well. I’ve
already got three of the fighters taking privates as well. It’s amazing how
much quicker athletes pick up your techniques and run with them, as opposed to
teaching non athletes self defence .What really interests me is the fights, to
me the fight is the test of the fighters own personal training, but also the
person who’s teaching them. Because if the student isn’t using the techniques you’re
teaching in the fight, you’re doing something wrong.
I’m looking forward
to the look on the opponents face when one of my students lands the first
kinetic punch, the difference in concussive force when you compare a standard
MMA punch is significant and these guys simply aren’t going to be used to feeling
that much force, imagine if you’re a counter fighter and your used to taking
shots to give shots. I’m expecting this to be similar to what you see with say Edson Barboza and
his kicks. Some people have just never felt that much raw concussive power from
his kicks and it has been totally overwhelming for some of his opponents. The
kinetic punch can replace your entire set of standard MMA punches with a
stronger kinetic version designed specifically for MMA gloves, like the jab
cross, hook etc. this comes down to the thumb position in bigger gloves. Boxing
or Thai gloves teach you one way to throw a punch, but don’t allow you to land
in a fully kinetic position like MMA gloves do. But Boxing and Muay Thai is
just as important to get in the right position to deliver these strikes. along
with the stronger positioning taught for the kinetic punch, the concussive training and techniques use to
increase your punching effectiveness, Can also be used to increase the effectiveness
of all your strikes, from hammer fist to elbows, knees and kicks.

Everything you wanted to know about shockwaves but were afraid to ask
Everything you wanted to know about shockwaves but were
afraid to ask
When it comes to developing a snap or shockwave on the end
of any strike, this can take years to develop, just through normal training
methods, but and this is a big but when you isolate the shockwaves and train
them specifically, there is a significant increase in your explosive precision
and effectiveness of your strike.
Q. Aren’t you just reinventing something that’s already used?
There’s nothing new in martial arts but, things can get forgotten or the actual reason for some training can be lost, like punching with light weights or paper training to develop explosiveness in your punch. this isolation training was there for a very good reason, it made one hell of a difference to your striking, this type of training is pretty obsolete in modern MMA, boxing gyms, and if it’s not known or being used in MMA or boxing than that makes a technique new to that specific sport. Here’s a clip showing
MORIO HIGAONNA
MORIO HIGAONNA
talking about traditional ways of training shockwaves on the end of the strike and how important the breathe is
and another showing some paper training and a makiwara set up for a light snap as well
While ill also use curtains, magazines etc,For the paper training I preffer to use laminated sheeting, because it gives much greater feedback to the user, as paper is a little light it can make your proggression much slower I like to place a target in a small area of the sheet ,so that I’m always striking at a focused area, rather than a general direction, you can train hundreds a day on the laminated sheet, but because your training your tendons more than your muscles, it can take them longer to recover if you push them (repetitive strain)one way to reduce this is to train the shockwave in a much slower way, and rather than doing 500 in one session you will be better, doing 100 in sets through the day, this is exactly the same with, punching with weights
Q.is breathing that important?
While your shockwaves can be trained and done without any breath at all, when you breath at the right time during the strike the shockwave will increase significantly and is the only way to fully use the whole body kinetically to strike, years of training the breath, refines the intenal release of a crisper, shockwave

Q. How many types of
shockwave are there?
Any Boxer, Muay Thai or MMA fighter all use exactly the same
ways to create a shock or force on the end of their strikes and there are three
types of shockwave produced each one is a step up in power/explosiveness and can be trained on the end of most strikes.not just punches, these can also be combined.
Pull back
this is punching but its all about the pullback, the faster you pull back the morte power you get
your not acually trying to hit the target with thisjust pull back before you land
this is punching but its all about the pullback, the faster you pull back the morte power you get
your not acually trying to hit the target with thisjust pull back before you land
The Light snapping shockwave
This is like a crisp snap on the end of a boxing jab were
the hand is thrown out and pulled straight back, creating a whip or snap on the
end of the punch, done correctly this feels like you’ve still got weight in
your hand, a bit like throwing out a ball and chain. Bouncing the head onto the
front foot and back
The Deep snapping shockwave
This is similar to the light snap but a step up, it carries
more weight and explosiveness, but rather than snapping straight back, I’m
snapping into the target, before returning the hand, transferring more
bodyweight into the punch and holding my head over my front foot for longer to
allow more weight to be transferred
The Ripping shockwave
The ripping shockwave is the most powerful of the shockwaves,
this again is similar to the Deep snap but it comes in and is ripped out, on
more of a 45% angle, taking full advantage of the cores muscles and torque and
is significantly stronger than the deep snap
The kinetic chop
The kinetic chop is a mix of the top three and can only be achieved
through refining the first three shockwaves, its an absolute beast when it comes to Raw explosive impact on the end of your punch, it uses the refined snap from the
first two and the raw power from the ripper, producing the ultimate in
explosive punching, particularly when it’s on the end of a kinetic punch
here a closer look at shockwaves with punches, palm heels and sticks
here a closer look at shockwaves with punches, palm heels and sticks
Q. Don’t I learn these anyway in normal training?
You do learn how to develop a snap through normal training
but it takes years to refine. So if you’re not training to isolate the shockwaves on the end of your punches, then when
you do your effective punching will
increase no end and continue to improve, you have got the yin and the yang in
striking. With power generation and the kinetic chain once you’ve refined
these, you will reach a limit like a plateau, where your body is strong and
your mechanics are refined, once you get to this point continuing to train the
same way continuously will only bring long slow improvements. This is where the
shockwaves, come into their own.
When you break it down there is only really two parts of a
punching movement that reaps great rewards when you isolate them and train them
specifically, you’ve got the switch between each strike and the shockwaves on
the end, training the switch between strikes, increases speed and familiarity and
flow this can be seen on the 100 punches in 13 seconds video what I’m actually
doing there is throwing 100 light shockwaves whilst training the switch at the
same time, and because I’m doing it much faster than I would normaly throw 100 full lenth punches,I can train much more of these in a shorter time, with less strain, this in turn increases the speed of my normal full length punches’ as well as the
explosiveness at the end of the strikes.and the speed of my switch between strikes.or even the speed of throwing the same strike again repeatedly.
Since training the shockwaves I've not levelled out or hit a
plateau, an I’ve only continued to increase the explosiveness and speed of my
punches and I’m 44 this year, I see the same in Kieth at 70 year old .Like me, He simply
couldn't do most of the strength and power training needed for a normal young guy in his twenties. But he still continues
to improve his striking by isolating the shockwaves.
The more you refine the end of a strike the less energy you
need to try to hit with power, because you know exactly how to finish the
strike, so you continue to hit harder, faster and more explosively, rather than
reaching a plateau through your normal routine.

James came down for a session on the shockwaves heres a review
James Whitmore "And they say you can't teach an old dog new tricks LOL... i would love to do a full review of our session karl, but as this is Facebook i'll keep it short. Let's start with a little intro !!! i have been involved with MA for longer than i can remember and trained with many of the best coaches the world has to offer... now just because i have trained with some of the elite doesn't mean that other less notorious coaches have less to give? in fact i really don't care who you are, what you've achieved or how many fights you may have had? what i want to know is what you can do for me??? This brings me to karl's session today, i came across Karl by chance and thought i would give his shockwaves theories a crack because whats the worst that can happen... Nothing? so of i went on a 3 hr journey to hook up with karl, we had a quick intro and it was straight into the training, i have always had a reasonable power base and technique has never been an issue, however i knew there was something more to attain regarding power and impact? and with the many novel ways karl has of improving the finish on any technique it wasn't long before i actually understood where my failings were, after a just one hour, karl had given me enough tools and concepts to keep me improving my impact for many months to come . All i would like to mention is that if you get the chance to train with karl or maybe you are struggling with generating real power then i can assure you, you will not go far wrong having karl take a little look and pointing in the right direction,,, I enjoyed our meeting today and once the new club is up and running i will certainly be inviting karl down to take a session ... i can give no higher praise than that! cheers"

ADRENAL TRAINING FOR WOMENS SELF DEFENCE
This is another older clip,First time adrenalin stress training for self defence,Nita had trained JKD for years but not experienced adrenalin training, you can see how she was initialy overwelmed, she became acustomed to the adrenal rush and also found the switch to really turn the amazonian.and use aggeresion as a tool,to increase effect,if she was using the correct breath as she struck it would be much harder, this again is just about training it as a responce.
