Do you fight like you train? or train like you expect to fight

You fight like you train so why not train like you want to fight?

Whenever your teaching anybody to punch harder it’s got to be available under pressure for you to use it, and has to be trained to the point that it’s the most familiar thing to you almost a natural reaction, you fight like you train but are you training for the fight or result you want?
You can’t train one way and then expect to fight in a different manner, I have full control over this when I’m teaching privates for self defence, you have to its goal orientated, and this is no different to fighting in the cage. It’s one thing learning something new in minutes, but it’s another thing totally using it in a fight. I see this sort of mentality a lot in traditional martial arts were people are always looking for that new move or Holy Grail rather than focusing on the basics that at the end of the day will get them safely through a fight. You see a significant drop in this mentality when people actually spar properly, like up at the hustle gym. When you do hard sparing you realise that its hard enough just to land one flush punch, let alone the huge list of fancy techniques you can collect when training a more traditional art. In fact lots of traditional arts have changed significantly because their techniques simply didn’t work in the cage! Hard sparing lets you know what you’re capable of in a situation and how you will fight.
This brings me to some observations of two types of fighters, now everybody I've taught the kinetic punch to has seen a significant improvement up to 50% with some in the first lesson. And it’s usually the more experienced that gets it more and realises the possible potential. Like the Edwards brothers, Mac and Nathan. When i first walked in to the gym i noticed Mac practising a boxing hook over and over again, in between teaching others, that’s the mentality you want training all the time, because there’s always someone you’ll face who trains harder. Now with Mac, from the moment I taught him the kinetic hook, every single time after that when he was practising hooks it was a kinetic hook same with his cross, once he realised the power level and it was taken on board instantly! And still out of all the guys I've taught then I’d say Mac and Nathan have the most chance of using it in the cage. It may seem obvious that you would start training a much more effective strike straight away, it is to me, but this is where you get two different types of fighters

The other type can have just as much of an increase in speed and power from their lessons ,but every time i see them throw a punch after that its same old version, perhaps it just comes down to each individual person’s ability to learn?or just each persons level but I've not had this problem teaching self defence when testing in the suit. I think this comes down to still training old styles as well, and not altering your sparing gloves so you can train the kinetic punch in fight or on the bag and get an understanding of the full effectiveness of this type of striking. the effect the kinetic punch on the human compared to a normal punch thrown in ordinary boxing glove has to be practiced in fight/sparring ingrained to make yourself fully aware of the real differences and the advantages, one guy who had been sparring with Nathan Edwards mentioned how he was hitting harder than the other person he was sparring with who was twice the size, this is what happens when you refine your punch with kinetics.
So while Boxing and Muay Thai are at the core of mma training, If you’re not using the kinetic punch on the end then you’re not throwing the strongest punch in training  it’s like drawing with a blunt pencil, Rather than a sharp one.you can draw with a blunt pencil but all you will make is impressions, with a sharp pencil each line is clean, precise and leaves a much more permanent mark. You can’t expect it to come out all of a sudden when you’re in the cage and you wish you had more power in your hands. If you’re training for a knockout finish and that’s your game plan you have to train the strongest punches all of the time, every punch counts to add up to hurt someone and in the ring, punches are the single most often thrown strikes. One punch knockout power is available in mma but you have to train for it. If someone shows you how to punch significantly harder you take that on board, train out the bad habits and take on the new. Learn from your mistakes. Don’t keep hold of them just because it tradition or there your favourite .if your shown something much more effective, then you should immediately start to use it and train it in every way, because if you’re not, your opponent probably is.

OUT NOW PALM HEEL DVD!

ADVANCED KINETIC CHAIN OPEN HAND STRIKING part 1
THE PALM HEEL
The palm heel has many names and it’s a very versatile strike, and there's no point on the head or body the relaxed open hand doesn't fit, it also reduces the risk of damaging or breaking your hands, like a boxers fracture if you’re punching. I show you how to deliver a very significant open handed strike. Teaching you the strongest positions, to deliver the most power with the palm heel. Along with the benefits of close range open hand strikes. I also run you through the three types of “shockwave” the light snap, deep snap and the most powerful ripping shockwave you can train on the end of the palm heel, each one is a step up in power from the next, add the “kinetic chop” and you've got an extremely powerful and concussive palm heel. If you’re a beginner then expect a significant increase in power, for the seasoned open hander this will also provide years of training to help sharpen your already honed skills, it’s a must have for anybody serious about the open handed strikes and the martial arts or for self defence and even mma.

First review short but sweet

PN "Your Dvd on the open palm and ripping energy has answered a few questions for me regarding a system I trained with a few years ago.

Had a bit of a "cagey" instructor and some of the info was withheld for all of his students but thanks to your good self have been able to fill in some of the blanks.

You are a great instructor and look forward to hopefully meeting up with you and training with you one day soon."

3 SHOCKWAVES AND THE PALM HEEL

Heres a look at keith training the three shockwaves on the end of the basic palm heel strike, each one is a step up in power, from the last and the RIPPER which is the strongest shockwave takes less energy to throw than the light snap. But the more you refine each shockwave, the bigger the step up,when you throw a stronger one, these can be added to the end of any open hand strike, refining power and building explosivness to the next level

PART 1 OF THE OPEN HAND DVD SERIES THE PALM HEELWILL BE OUT SHORTLY
part 2 and 3 are going to be on the palm hook and the slap or BEARPAW as it was once known

BASIC RULES OF POWER KICKING PART 2 THE HIPS

BASIC RULES FOR POWER KICKING FOR MMA PART 2
                                                            THE HIPS

The hips make a huge difference in the power you generate with a kick.as you step in (rule one) you should be cocking the hips in the opposite direction of your kick, the more supple the hips, the further back you can cock them, but also the further you can drive the hips over to send the kick in as you land this makes a significant difference in the weight and power of your kick.the harder the kicker the more supple the hips and they can really fold it over and drive the leg bone into the opponent at ninty degrees, the more you turn it over as you land the more you will get a ripping shockwave on the kick.its no different kicking high or low this is a very good evercise for loosening the hips
bukaw hips fold over at least 4 to 6 inches more than most mma fighters giving extra weight and power in his kicks, driving the hips in first then letting the leg go at the last minute

One fighter to watch out for!

I had the chance to teach Tomasz Wojtyna a bit of kinetic punching up at the Hustle gym

ME WRISTS!...Ive held pads for many hard hitters over the years, and theres only 2 that really stood out, both of which had at least 30 years or more training behind them,Tomasz is right there with them after only 4 years! this guy is one to watch very talented! and his kinetic punching? one of the finest examples ive ever seen!  he picked it up faster and threw it harder than anyone has!

 Heres one of his fights

BASIC RULES OF POWER KICKING FOR MMA RULE 1 THE STEP

                                                                  RULE ONE THE STEP
stepping in with the opposite foot rotated fully before the kicking leg leaves the ground

One reason to do this is to make sure your not spinning and twisting your knee with all your weight on it as your other leg throwing the kick you will lose power to the ground,if your foot jams or your on a surface that your foot doesnt spin on and your twisitng after the kicking leg leaves the ground you can tear your knee apart, and it akso causes problems though time.If your Stepping in and rotating the foot so that its in the direction your going to be after youve finished the kick, then theres no pressure or twist on the knee,Another reason is power because this also opens up the hips and creates more torque.done right its like the difference in a light shockwave compared to ripping shockwave with the kinetic punch.were you step in relation to your oponent usually about 45% also makes a difference, say if you were kicking the liver you may step in 6 inches deeper than a leg kick because. It makes a significant difference in the effect your kick has ,Heres Bas Rutten an exellent kicker explaining a little.
it also lines up the shin in a stronger postion one more reason to avoid a broken leg!
results? with a bit of precision one kick Ko power
in part two im going to chat about rotating the hips through and body torque for kicks.I can also highly recomend  Bas,s big DVDS of combat

"IS YOUR CUP EMPTY OR FULL" BRUCE LEE

Is your cup full or empty?

I always find it interesting how some people resist change, and they don’t realise there blocking their own ability to learn and gather knowledge and even pass it on.
Now imagine if I was in an gym and I said to the bloke next to me who I had watched on the bag, I can show you how to hit harder, explain a bit, just give me the chance to show you. Most of the time you will get people interested, enough to test if the claims are genuine. After all it only takes 5 minutes to hold a pad for me to answer any questions. For someone to do this is pretty normal and id say, this usually happens over 98% of the time. These are people that haven’t stopped learning and are open to new techniques. You have to be, to be successful in any fast changing or growing sport. You can’t control the flow but you can go with it and ride the wave on the front so to speak. There’s is another small percentage of guys who have stop learning ,these are often much more experienced martial artists, who could have been training something one way for years and their beliefs are fixed. And there’s almost a fixed stubbornness to refuse to believe anything new.

Many Guys have said to me something like “I believe your power is what you’ve got from the start " Your born with it and it takes many years to build any explosiveness and it can’t be taught” And most come round particularly after hold a pad! But there’s the occasional person so fixed in their beliefs that even when I offer to show them and prove my point in person they run a mile, They  refuse to even take a look or even entertain that fact, that after all these years training they could be shown something new. Most trainers know how to throw a Boxing or Muay Thai punch, I’m teaching kinetic punching it’s a punch designed specifically from the MMA gloves up, stronger positions to deliver more power, the body mechanics are much more efficient using less energy, and the strike is much more explosive because of the shockwaves trained on the end of the strike

Is your cup full or empty?

Bruce lee
Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.
